Candidates Town Hall/Debate

The East Beach Community Association (EBCA) in conjunction with Saint Paul’s United Church and Reverend Daniel Benson has organized an All Candidates Town Hall for the 2019 Federal Election for the riding of Scarborough Southwest. The event is taking place on Tuesday October 8, 2019, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at:

St. Paul’s United Church – 200 McIntosh Street, Scarborough

Handicapped parking available at church, room is fully accessible from the outside sidewalk, with an accessible washroom.  Please enter church from the west entrance

The Town Hall begins at 7:30 p.m.  Audience members will have the opportunity to submit written questions for the candidates. Candidates from the following parties will be in attendance: NDP, Liberal, PC, Green, People’s Party of Canada, and Animal Protection Party.

Speaking order for candidates for Opening & Closing Remarks will be determined by a draw prior to the start of the public meeting. Public will submit questions in writing, and the Moderator will read the questions.

PROCEDURAL RULES

  1. Time Keeper will signal when candidate has 15 seconds left to speak.
  2. Candidates will have a maximum of 60 seconds to answer questions.
  3. Candidates must answer the question asked, and not change the subject; otherwise he or she will be ruled out of order.
  4. Written Questions from the audience directed to a specific candidate will be answered by that candidate. The moderator will then give other candidates a chance to answer the question.
  5. No profanity, rude gestures, or demeaning of candidates by another candidate will be tolerated.  Such behavior will lead to the expulsion of the offending candidate.
  6. Inappropriate behavior by the audience will not be tolerated, and violators will be asked to leave.
  7. All decisions of the Moderator and/or EBCA President are final.
